Frozen shoulder and t1 diabetes

Has anyone got frozen shoulder along with t1? I have had frozen shoulder 2 years and 10 months ago I had it mua. The pain is worse than ever now. Just wondered if anyone had any experience of how long the healing process is? I know frozen shoulder is common in diabetics, just something else for us to deal with! TIA xx
 
Please can you explain what is mua ?

I had mine debrided of all calcification 2 years ago .
It totally "cured" my frozen shoulder .
Am painfree completely now .

Yes they do see it a 'lot with diabetes' patients .

My husband is T1D and suffered a torn rotator cuff about 8 months ago - it has since been compounded with frozen shoulder. He has been in agony, so I would imagine you have been suffering horribly.
As I understand it, frozen shoulder can last for up to three years - if it helps though, what my husband has found (only recently) is that Thai acupressure for frozen shoulder seems to be helping (at last!) - he has tried physio and accupuncture and is on a number of pain killers. The pain killers help because they encourage him to utilise the shoulder rather than 'seize up'. (It also allows him to sleep and avoid depression brought on by sleep deprivation) The thai 'massage' (actually it's therapy that seems to work on trigger points) is found on a You tube link here: I am actually doing it for him - so it can't be that difficult to do! Have a look and see if you can find a willing volunteer to help!
In the meantime it would seem sensible to try to maintain BGs within the 'normal' range as much as possible - there is evidently some link between either high BGs or fluctuating BGs that leaves people with diabetes susceptible.

I had a frozen shoulder, over a year ago it took a good year to heal, messed up my whole life, fitness, sleep, i'm still recovering physically trying to catch back up with the fitness i lost, i'm very glad it disappeared; a doctor said it was arthritis, i was like... ***??? it wasn't, it disappeared by itself after much rest, life change and stress management, but i am very cautious now. Sometimes i feel a twinge during exercise and just hope it never returns. I was on heavy prescription pain killers that were addictive, codeine 30mg/500mg at one point i was on about 12 a day, the pain was so bad. i had a deep tissue massage by someone that made it even worse. Eventually it will go; time, patience, rest, good diet, lower bgz and being kind to yourself is a good healer. Through it i learnt that my body was telling me something so I had to sit up and listen. I hope it gets better for you soon.
 
Thank you both for replying. Its such a horrible pain, cant describe it to anyone! I am sick of living off painkilllers, I have been referred back to the surgeon but havent had an appt yet. Thai accupressure looks like it will be worth a go, I will literally try anything. Its like a vicious circle for me, I feel **** with the pain so I eat, so the BG rises, I feel **** that I have \ high bs so I eat! My goal is to go swimming with my kids, it does help to have something to work towards even if it does seem a million miles away at the moment. All the best to you both xx
 
I had it, first in one shoulder, then in the other. The second was not as bad as the first. I had no treatment whatsoever, but eventually ended up with the full range of movement in one shoulder and 90+% in the other, and years later it is still slowly improving.
 
I've had a frozen shoulder for about a year, and have had two cortisone injections, the latest jag I got just last week. The last injection sent my bg mental - I was on a temp basal of 100% for days. It seems to have calmed down now.

I got put on the heavy painkillers, but I think that;s just to fob you off. I saw an orthopaedic doc last week and might need an operation on it - I should find out soon.

The FS really got me down - it wasn't the pain (although it really is excruciating) it was not being able to do much, and people not really understanding just how painful it is. Tell your gp you want to be referred to an ortho and don't take no for an answer! Good luck.
 
Yes I have it .. Actually it started out as frozen shoulder and progressed (funny thing is after the frozen shoulder stops becoming frozen the pain isn't as bad. Until many months later ) they usually start out with conservative therapy but my ortho guy basically said if after so many shots and rehab , that surgery is necessary. I have had it for years and because I was told recovery on this surgery isn't as easy as others I have been holding off .I was told that musculoskeletal complications are much more common in type 1 (NOT SAYING TYPE 2 DONT HAVE THEM ) just more common. Many of the issues are caused from collagen as well as calcium deposits build up in the joints which changes the connective tissue. Calcific periarthritis of the shoulder is also seen in diabetes, where it is roughly three times more common in diabetics than none diabetics I completely agree with everything @Billytrack said. It is terrible not to have full function. I hope you can get it squared away .

I should have said @sugarfree79 , we only tried the Thai acupressure after a CT scan of the shoulder and a full review by a specialist who basically gave my husband the 'all clear' and confirmed that there wasn't any underlying damage to the shoulder. @Billytrack is bang on that you have to insist on seeing an ortho to clarify exactly what is going on first. When did you have it manipulated? I've just checked out a vid on you tube of mua. OUCH!!!
 
Hi I've had it for over a year and have read this post with a mixture of amazement and mixed emotions. It's nice to rant about it, I've not bothered buying clothes that zip up the back, in fact I hate trying anything on, it hurts to sleep, get a shower, get out the ( hope no one ever catches me getting out on all fours ) and most of the other things that've been mentioned. I feel like appointments to sort it are another restriction and my work probably do too. Moan, moan, moan. Good luck to you all
