Frozen shoulder from diabetes?

Could someone tell me if its correct that my persistent frozen shoulder could be due to type 2 diabetes? I was diagnosed August 2009 after many years of complaining of utter tiredness and memory probs, put on 2000mgs metformin, and three months ago put on 100mgs sitagliptin. I was also informed that I must have had biabetes for sometime before diagnosis.
My shoulder problem goes back to 2002, when it was really bad. Come to think, I also had a severe stiff neck some two years earlier needing a period off work also. Could my diabetes go this far back? How long would a person need to be diabetic for such a complait to develop? I also developed a very worm glowing all over when waking in the morning. It's quite pleasent really but not when I think it may be related to biabetes. Could this be? This may sound a bit odd but it would be good to clear it up. Thanks for reading.

Not an expert, but I have heard thatthis problemis more common in diabetics...but not sure if it is actually the root cause. Try searching for "carpal tunnel" on teh forum. It is not exactlt the same thing,, but I do remember a long discussion about it a while back.
 
Frozen shoulder affects the whole population but rates are much higher for diabetics.
You do not say if you have been offered any treatment. As a fellow sufferer I will say that mine took three years to improve and I would say it is now 95% better. I think this is as good as it is going to get according to Orthopedics.
It can happen whether your sugars are high or low according to the Specialist I saw and would confirm this as my control was good before it developed, during and after.

I had a frozen shoulder about 10 years ago, way before I was diagnosed but who knows...? Took about a year to sort out. I actually became a therapist in Bowen because that was the only thing that worked for me! Since I had it, I have treated 4 people, none of whom were diabetic. I don't work as a therapist any more but I would encourage anyone into the alternative therapies to give Bowen a go. It is gentle, non invasive and doesn't affect Diabetes or any meds that you are on :)
 
Hi Thanks for your replies. I first had probs with my shoulder seven years ago, five years before being diagnosed with diabetes. The hospital got me over the worsed. Certain exercises now keep the worsed away. Guess I will have to live with it. Thanks.
 
I have had a similar problem with my left shoulder for many years... I worked out that the pain got worse when I ate a lot of wheat products, and my IBS/nervous tension in my digestiive system also increased after a lot of bread etc... then, after my Diabetes diagnosis last April I realised that these pains became worse when my BG levels were high, and virtually disappeared when I reduced carb intake and BG levels... it was like a light bulb going on in my head! I don't understand fully why all these things are linked, but I don't realy mind, because now that I know they are, AND that I can control them, I don't worry about them... :)
 
I had a frozen shoulder which started about 7 years ago and took well over a year to start getting better. I have no after effects from it now. I went to the local gym, where a sports therapist helped get me moving in the right way. My Bg control was "good" by the doctor's standards, before it happened. Now it's almost good by my standards[at the higher end of normal] and I've had no recurrence
I'm told it's more common in diabetics.
