Morning all,

I have a question with regard to fruit; its simple really I eat quite a bit of it as its fat free and generally pretty good for you (so I'm told). Anyway how much insulin should I be taking when I eat fruit? I'm a Type 1 diabetic and if you are thinking I should already know this; you're right I should but my memory is similar to a rather large siv and I often forget stuff seconds after I'm told!

Any advice would be greatfully received.

Cheers

You have to look up the carb content of the fruit and weigh your portion size to work out the carb value, so say you ate a banana which had 20g of carbs and your insulin/carb ratio at lunch was 1 unit of insulin to 10g of carbs you would then inject 2 units to cover the fruit.

Here are some other carb values for fruit taken from my carbs and cal app:
medium apple - 10 to 15g
fresh apricot - 4g
blueberries - about 5g per 20 berries
cherries - about 1g a cherry
clementine sized orange - about 5g
grapes - about 1g a grape
kiwi fruit - 5g
nectarine or peach - 10 to 15g depends on size
medium orange - about 7-10g
large conference pear - 20g
large comice pear - 30g
plum - 10g
raspberries - only about 5g per (v large) handful
strawberries - just under 1g per strawb
