since going lchf I have lost just about 2 stone and come off gliclazide, I have willingly done without potatoes, rice, pasta bread etc but the one thing I really miss is not carbs at all, it`s fruit. Is there any fruit that a diabetic (type 2) can eat more than one portion a day of ?

Hi and well done on the weight loss and reducing your meds.

All I can say is you need to test different fruits with your meter. A few people can manage small portions of a few different fruits. Others can't. Only your meter can tell you if you can.

It is generally unwise to have fruit as a snack. It is best to have it as part of a meal, and with yogurt or cream. I can manage a few blackberries, or raspberries, or strawberries, or blueberries, or half an apple. If you can cope with berries, there is no reason why you can't have a small portion with each meal. You don't need to restrict yourself to once a day, but please use your meter to tell you.

Thanks, I do use my meter, I guess I was just hoping for some fruit I hadn`t tried yet. Eternal optimist, that`s me!

Have a look at the green smoothies link in my sig.

And this thread.

I still advise you to test carefully with any fruit consumption, but these recipes allow you to add more fruit than you might think, and keep your blood glucose ok.

I generally find that green smoothies (60% veg, 40% not-very-sweet-fruit) doesn't raise my BG more than 2mmol/l.

I'm another great fruit lover, and normally restrict myself to raspberries, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, and a few cherries. But I discovered during the summer that I could also manage small portions of gooseberries, nectarines, greengages, English plums, apricots and occasional figs, in additional to the usual recommended berries, without doing me too much damage. So I treated myself to a bit of a sinful summer! 1/3 of an apple and a single segment of orange tend to be OK as occasional treats too. But I do try to make sure I'm eating all my fruit with yoghurt, cream, as part of the rest of my meal, or in a muffin.

I also try to eat around no more than 50-75g weight of my fruit at a meal, so feel I can sometimes allow myself two portions a day.

Thank you for your answers, I`ll do some experimenting.
