frustrated!

This disease never fails to frustate. I have been diagnosed 30 years and still it is often impossible to manage.

Hoping for some ideas.

for 3 years I've eaten low carb which on the whole has done wonders for my control
When I'm at work I can be running along very steady all day between 4.5 - 6mmols, i can sit ar desk , walk around and it stays very stable.

the problem comes at night. I have an evening meal usually by 6pm which may be salmon green veg, butter some mayo
or steak /eggs . I usually take 2.5 - 3units of novorapid with my evening meal . Anymore and I will be down around 3mmols

sometimes it will rise to 7.5 -8 mmols and then go down and settle.

Now I can be sitting downstairs all evening with it stable, but as soon as I go upstairs and get ready for bed up it jumps to 10-12mmols

I then spend many hours trying to get it down.

I have tried giving 1-2 extra units of novorapid before bed but often it still lingers around 9 - 11mmols
It seems any additional insulin makes no difference whatsover.

I may end up giving another extra 1 unit at 3am and then eventually by 6am it may be down to 4-7mmols

2) the other thing I have noticed is with the juggluco app you obviously see your blood sugar continually. iF i'm sitting /lying still ,blood sugar all good, as soon as i get out of bed in the night up it shoots by about 3-4mmols ! does anyone elses readings shoot up with the slightest movement and then settle down if you just wait a few minutes. occasionally this reading then stays up.

where am i going wrong?

I take tresiba of 11.5 units at night..

I don't subscribe to the overhyped low carb agenda, in particular for Type 1 diabetes.

That said I have experienced similar issues to yourself re pre bedtime bs increases. I just take more rapid acting insulin. If I take a bit too much then can take in some glucose to counter, but levels usually drop quite rapidly, in particular if I rely on finger prick tests which I understand are more reliable than Libre and have less of a time lag. The latter (which I hear can be up to at least 20 minutes) may explain why you are waiting so long for a lower reading.

Hi,

If it’s any consolation to you. My BG can scooch up by 3mmol just getting out of bed & prepping for work?
But it rarely settles back down, unless I correct it.

Yup, pretty much the same here. Standing up and going to bed results in a spike. For me it comes down reasonably fast when in bed but it is still frustrating yes. Waking up and needing to pee results in a spike. Even during the day whenever I stand up and get a cup of coffee at work it spikes a little. For me the most frustrating is the DP peak that starts between 3-4AM, peaks between 9-10AM at averagely 9-10 mmol and returns to below 6 around 12-1PM. Also using juggluco since about a month and liking it btw.

Never heard of a coffee spike before
That actually is a thing for some too, but I meant getting up from my seat walking up the stairs to the machine and back at work . With juggluco it actually shows in the minute values.

Juggluco. Never heard of it. Better look it up. Hopefully it'll be more accurate and reliable than IMO the vastly overhyped Libre.

I do subscribe to the overhyped low carb agenda (when I have the willpower) I often go to 12 when I go to bed but ignore it, if I try to bring it down I’m hypo by 3am, not sure why but I drop at 3am regardless, I do however inject when I wake because I must have an overactive liver, always goes up violently first thing, I did suspect a hot shower but experiments haven’t backed this up, gotta love DB huh.

Ditto! It drives me up the wall. When I see people talking about going for walks after meals to help with control I feel jealous. The act of moving puts my levels up. Something to do with adrenaline I believe. If I’m up 2/3 times in the night it makes control difficult.
