Why does the G.P.dismiss the readings from a self monitoring kit?
 
No clue, most don't. Although they are not 100% accurate, they're a decent guide. Did you ask your doc why he dismissed them ? If not, I would.

Seems rather strange as they normally want to see them.

I suspect you are type 2 and not encouraged to test your own bg.
