Hi all, i was recently diagnosed type 1 after many years of being led to believe i was actually type2. This was eventually determined through a GAD test, anyone else had one of these?
My results came back with a reading of 715, result guidelines advised 25+ was a positive result.
Also on the results was the mention of SPS which has got me a little worried.
Was curious if anyone else out there has had any similar results/test and any thoughts.
People with SPS have elevated levels of GAD, an antibody that works against an enzyme involved in the synthesis of an important neurotransmitter in the brain.
Hi Stuart, not quite the same story as yours but similar I guess. I was diagnosed at 46 and they just assumed it was T2 and I went along with it. Not quite as long a time frame as yours but eventually had all the tests, including GAD, and later diagnosed T1. To be honest, the treatment was pretty much the same although I spent a while in the "honeymoon phase" where I was still making a bit of my own insulin. Since then, attended DAFNE course and carb counting and pretty much no problem now. The only issue for me was once T1 and on insulin, I had a period at work where I had a few issues but fine now.
