I have gastroparesis, which means that when I eat, I don't know when that food will be digested. So, I cannot take the full carb-covering dose of insulin when I eat. Also, it seems that all the hybrid closed-loop insulin pumps expect a patient without gastroparesis. So, I expect that they would constantly alarm when the blood sugar doesn't respond the way it expects. And if I check blood sugar 2 or 3 hours after eating, I can see if my blood sugar went up from the meal, and dose... but then if it has been less than 6 hours since my last dose of insulin, I don't know how much insulin may still be waiting to be absorbed. Of course, all of this means that my average blood glucose is through the roof. I am not certain if this is just something that has to be accepted as a consequence of the Gastroparesis.
I am hoping one of the apps (like the one from Big Foot) will be able to help me manage my insulin dosing. But, I don't know if any work well for individuals with Gastroparesis.
Any suggestions?
