Gastroparesis-New Drug

Well-Known Member
I have suffered with diabetic gastroparesis for a while now. Its only mild compared to some and controlled quite well with domperidone. Some days are worse than others.
I have been asked to take part in trials for a new drug called TZP-101 at my local university hospital. This trail is being sponsered by the manufacturer Tranzyme Incorperated and require a weeks addmitance to the hospital. I will be given meals at set time and a IV infusion of the drug 30 minute before the meals each day followed by a series of tests and question.

The study title is

A Multicentre, Randomised, Double Blind, Placebo-Controlled, Dose-Ranging Study to Asses the Efficiancy and safety of TZP-101 when administered as a 30 minute I.V. infusion to subjects with severe gastropareisis due to diabetes mellitus.

I should have been for a test a couple of weeks ago to determine if I truely have this condition. The test involves drinking a product like those protein drinks taken by bodybuilders and then taking breath tests to check for something or another. Unfortunately that day I was ill and will have to wait til november for the second round of study.

I am eager to take part as it definately determine wether or not I truely have gastropareisis before I take part. and if the trials go well this drug will be generally available to alliviate symtoms and improve the lives of myself and that of other with the same condition. I must admit I am a little frightened of hospitals and have been known to run away on previous admittance.
Also I have taken part in many studies and beleive that this will benefit us all in the long run.

So do any of you suffer with gastroparesis and find the drugs available at the moment either dont work or have severe side effects? I find the domperidone only seems to take the edge off the nausea and other related symptoms.

This sounds very interesting and I shall look forward to reading reports. I have had gastro-paresis since 1996 and hate it. I take Domperidome and Losec and on the whole they do help. However, I have constant constipation or diarrhoea (dire rear as we call it in may cat's conference! Much easier to spell LOL). I have not been on holiday since 2003 and have very rarely slept away from home as I never know how I shall be. I have had diabetes since 1961 and also have retinopathy and have just been diagnosed with angina. It gets really difficult doesn't it? I do not like the idea of going in hospital so at this time I am not thinking of joinin in for this study. In the early days of diabetes I always seemed to be in hospital but generally I keep control faiarly well. At present it is all going wrong due to my new drugs, I think. I shall be interested to har what others have to say about the subject.
