H vulnerability of all people with diabetes seems, I think, to depend on a combination of how good their control is, their blood pressure, the extent to which blood sugars are affected by Covid, the viral load they receive, the quality of health care and the number of others also needing interventions, and that small bit of non-classifiable susceptibility that’s perplexed the staticians. All in all, I for one, wouldn’t want to put it to the test, and especially as previous bouts of illness have been so very hard to endure with the coupled factor of the wretchedness of high blood sugars.
The government has no doubt had to concentrate on the most vulnerable, as is listed in the current guidelines, because in an ideal situation there’d be ICU space for all. Unfortunately there’s not. Diabetes was seen as a vulnerability when the first set of vulnerabilities was published, and has been cited as an underlying causal factor for mortality in the Wuhan outbreak.
All people’s concerns about Covid19 and diabetes are, in my humble opinion, justified. And as has been said, concern for others is also a very strong reason to avoid becoming infected.
