Type 1 gatou

On a forum that is specifically for those people with the many forms of diabetes it is plainly obvious that diabetes is going to be the main topic of conversation and at the moment how the Covid 19 pandemic is going to affect those living with diabetes even the government and NHS has included it in their list of conditions of particular concern.

So it is recognized as a medical fact that diabetics are at more risk than the general public and that is of course a matter of great concern here.

The existence of other conditions that are of concern also, does not change that as far as I can see.

Exactly.
We may not be the most vulnerable but we are more vulnerable than a lot of people.

I for one don’t want to test how st risk I am. Simply because the answer would be live or die and well don’t like those odds.

so I’d rather be vulnerable and live then live at risk and die.

plus this is a diabetes forum. Surely it’s the one place are we allowed to be diabetic.

all my bloods have been cancelled, my next review has been cancelled. mots easter and well I love chocolate so really struggling.

if people want to be unkind maybe they need to go somewhere else. Like in a park on their Tod for an hour and spout off their nonsense so the rest of us don’t have to hear it!

i am slightly snippy now if it hasn’t been noticed.

H vulnerability of all people with diabetes seems, I think, to depend on a combination of how good their control is, their blood pressure, the extent to which blood sugars are affected by Covid, the viral load they receive, the quality of health care and the number of others also needing interventions, and that small bit of non-classifiable susceptibility that’s perplexed the staticians. All in all, I for one, wouldn’t want to put it to the test, and especially as previous bouts of illness have been so very hard to endure with the coupled factor of the wretchedness of high blood sugars.
The government has no doubt had to concentrate on the most vulnerable, as is listed in the current guidelines, because in an ideal situation there’d be ICU space for all. Unfortunately there’s not. Diabetes was seen as a vulnerability when the first set of vulnerabilities was published, and has been cited as an underlying causal factor for mortality in the Wuhan outbreak.
All people’s concerns about Covid19 and diabetes are, in my humble opinion, justified. And as has been said, concern for others is also a very strong reason to avoid becoming infected.
