Gay man looking for diabetic support groups / friends

Hello there,

not gay, but happy to talk about weight lifting, I am a Type 1 diabetic.

A brief background, I've been into weight lifting for on and mainly off for 10 years, unfortunately things always got difficult as I started to bulk, use to struggle to build muscle/strength, didn't think much of it

Anyway, a year ago got back into and focused...same thing happened. Although this time round I started losing strength as I ate more and didn't really build much. My missus is clued up with diabetes so she tested my blood sugar, from there onwards onto GP, few visits later on Insulin, both types.

Wow, what a difference.

I think the best thing I've learnt is it's all about having a balanced diet in lines with macros and calorific requirements. And of course, INSULIN!

I can't say I do anything different, other than tinker with my Insulin requirements according to bulk/cut.

Some are wary of supplements, but I use the following:
Creatine
Whey Protein
Ground Oats
BCAA
Omega 3 fish oils.

My kidney/liver function were normal at my last test so I personally believe as long as I drink enough water I can carry on as I'm doing.

Right now I'm on a cut, it's no fun at all. I've reduced my Insulin as I'm eating less...Everything seems to be normal.

hi mate
thanks for the reply.
Can I ask a few questions?
How did you work your basal rate out? based on weight? How much background insulin do you take? Do you split it? What is your weight, height and age?
I ask these questions because i have been doing so much research and I am convinced that my control is poor because my basal is too high.
Whats a typical day for you? Whats your usual BG pre meal and fasting?
whats your carb to insulin ratio for meals?

Sorry to ask so many questions. Im just feeling a bit lost at the moment and my diabetic clinic are useless. I dont have much fait in my dr anymore.

regards

Derrick
