Hey guys, was wondering what your thoughts are on gay rights and whether gays should be allowed to marry or why that shouldn't. Also your thoughts on gay, lesbian and bisexual.
 
People are people wherever you are. Just human beings like the rest of us. Personally I'm not interested in how anyone lives their lives as long as they don't hurt anyone.
 
I don't know the situation in Britain but here in Sweden gays can marry. And why not, should they want to, like everybody else? I rarely understand the fuss.
 
Yeah gay marriage is allowed here but quite a lot of people are are really judgemental about it like when I walk down the street with my girlfriend everyone stares and when I try speaking to people they will ignore me
 
Gay marriage is fine, i married my boyfriend last August and we are are very happy we get judge constantly by neighbours due to our age difference, im 64 & his 35. Hey but love rules.
 
We have equal marriage in Britain too. I don't get why anyone would care whom anyone else marries, so I'm pleased it's finally been introduced.

People are complex, multi-faceted creatures, so obsessing about one aspect - ie their sexuality - is just weird. It'll be nice when the time arrives that no-one will have to come out. It shouldn't matter one jot.
 
People will always have issues with something, skin colour, weight, dress sense, occupation, sexuality. No point giving it anytime, just get on with your life how you choose to live it, as long as you aren't hurting anyone that's all that matters.
 
Everyone needs to love and be loved regardless of their sexual orientation.
Accept that there will always be bigots as they choose not to educate themselves.
 
My view: A person is a person is a person and everyone is entitled to the same rights - their colour, race, religion, gender or sexuality is irrelevant to what rights they should have.

I'm pleased that the UK has finally decided to come out of the dark ages and allow same sex marriage and I look forward to the day that all prejudice is a thing of the past (although I don't think it will be in my lifetime, unfortunately)

I think you will find in any society, (including an online forum) there will be people who are judgemental.

My own beliefs here are that we should not judge. People tend to be afraid of what they don't understand. That makes them prejudiced. I am glad that here in UK there is greater acceptance of individual sexuality differences than there was when I was younger. There were so many unhappy gay people who were afraid to express their sexuality openly. Still much prejudice though, sadly.

Be true to yourself, but beware of narrow minded bigoted people.
 
As an American (now living in the UK for almost 5 years), I was pleasantly surprised at the acceptance of gays here (and biracial relationships). The USA is notoriously homophobic (and racist) and coming from a very strict religious background, gay people were vilified by my parents. I never understood their views and it became the topic of hot debate and yelling matches in my household. Because I'm not gay, my parents couldn't understand why I even cared about gay rights. Now that my niece/their granddaughter has come out, they've had to be more accepting. I love my parents to death but it was just the smack in the head they needed, IMO. They would never tell the neighbors/friends that my niece's partner is anything more than a "friend" but at least they are welcoming and kind to her. It's a start, I guess.

We are all on this planet to help each other, just my view.
 

Yes sadly some of our gay/bisexual friends are still having to be cautious who they tell. Also, we have a friend who still hasn't mentioned that their son married his male partner. They just never mention it, and as the son lives away, I don't know how or if to mention I know. They talk about son, and his job, interests etc, but seem to think they need to hide his husband away. It makes me sad to think that they do not trust us enough to mention it. We love all our friends, no matter if they are gay, straight bisexual or transgender. We see the people, not the sexuality.
I think it can also be a generational thing, and depend on whether you actually know and interact with people with different culture, sexuality etc. yet, after all, every human being has been some mother's baby. Respect for all is needed.
 
There is a famous quote supporting gay marriage that goes something like. "Gay people got a right to be as miserable as everybody else.."

You and your girlfriend are very courageous, and by doing what you are doing, you will change people's attitudes. First attitudes have to be challenged, then they change. Still I am sure it is not nice for the two of you to be stared at and ignored.

I like the person for who they are, not what gender they are or prefer. My teens auntie is gay and a lovely person. I found prejudice against me when I mentioned I had made a few type 2's friends on here, ( from a type 1 which was so shocking) not because they are type 2, just because they are such lovely people and we all get on so well, actually I'm outnumbered, as I'm the only type 1 amongst us.
Never let anyone change who you are

Hi, Bethany buchan.
"Same sex couples", a subject I'm very interested to learn from.

In order to understand, sympathise and accept the principle and cause,
I've tried seriously, logically, and with honesty to think about this.....

A side issue I've been attempting to understand and take on board is why
many same sex couples insist on the right to marry in church, when the
church is totally against same sex marriage.

Perhaps it's simply not a subject same sex couples would
want to take seriously or delve into.
Perhaps it's simply a wish to marry in church....."end of"
Perhaps it's simply the romantic idea of a church wedding.
Perhaps it's simply unknown or a belief of churches' principles.
Perhaps it's simply not been given a second thought and/or dismissed.

I'm irritated at myself for not coming to a final conclusion after all this time.
However, despite saying that, there's just possibly two "perhaps" up
there that could be considered a reasonable and acceptable answer.

If anyone can help, I'm very keen to learn and be educated.
