Hi,
I am in the middle of sitting my GCSE's, and in a recent exam I had a bad hypo and it's seriously impacted my grade, a friend told me that diabetics can claim a ten percent mark up on their grades, but I've asked around and looked online and I can't find any evidence to suggest that this is true, has anyone got any advice, or do you know anyway I can get my grade up based on the fact that I am diabetic (It's too late for a resit)
Thank you :D

Not sure - but did your school put in for this before the exam? I think (but don't quote me) that any special allowances must be put in before the exam. It might be worth asking your examinations officer to see what they can do? But I think you will find that whatever can be done needs to have been done at the time of the exam not when the results come out.
Hope you get something sorted.

Get your school to contact whoever they need to contact about this asap. Yes if you have a hypo during the exam it will effect your grade. No you don't get 10% extra for having diabetes, but they should be able to do something about the grade for the exam you had a hypo in.

Rather than take the advice of your friend you would be better speaking with the head of year about your hypo in the exam and explain why this impacted on your overall performance, my bet would be that a resit would be offered and you should in future make them aware of your diabetes before the exam commences. Good luck and hope you pass your GCSE's! :)
