GD and Steroids

Has anyone has experience of steroid injections during pregnancy? I'm 31+3 GD and was told yesterday that cord blood flow is low and partially absent in flow. They are montitoring this and plan to admit and give me steroid injections in the event that it gets worse. It's my understanding that if the flow revereses that it's immediate delivery.

My question is about the steroid injection, I was told that its to matire babys lungs but with diabetes that they effect blood sugar.

Thank you.

Yes @Katy1980 that's correct about the steroids helping baby's lungs

I didn't have the injections but a number of ladies here did. You could do a search. My memory is hopeless but I'm going to tag a few ladies who I think had steroids (apologies to anyone I tag who hasn't) @ohitsnicola @1Sarah1 @claire1991 @Vick22 @mrsguiseley

I had the steroids about a week ago @Katy1980 and they did send me sugars haywire BUT only for about 12 hours or so and they wasn't dreadful! But I wouldn't regret having the steroids....they're worth the temporary highs as when I had my daughter on Monday she didn't really need much help with breathing! X

Ps I had her at 34+1 weeks and she is doing very well!

I had steroids too!

Just over a month ago, and again, my daughter didn't need any help breathing after delivery either and she was born at 37 weeks exactly.

I will say that the injections sting a bit but only for a few seconds.
It didn't affect my bloods but I'm on a pump and stayed on it and was able to adjust my background accordingly.

Best of luck!

I think that my bloods would have been okay but they disconnected my pump and I was just on the sliding scale....had a bit of a mare in hospital! But you will be okay! And yes the Injections bloody hurt lol....but I had a dodgy cannula in my hand that hurt more!
Good luck xx
