Hi
Doctors thought I had gestational diabetes during my pregnancy but since giving birth I still had very high levels and have just been diagnosed with type 1 so back on insulin injections 4x a day which is very tough looking after a baby and yourself.
I went from being monitored every week by the hospital duing my pregnancy to nothing really now and the community team have cancelled my appoinment so its another month until i'm seen.

Need advice on foods and i'm so worried about having hypos with my baby that keep topping myself up with bad snacks/ sugar. Think I need a reality check and the long term damages, i'm 31 years old and feel like a lost teenager again.
I have come on here as don't know anyone with diabetes and thought users may be able to give me some advice etc. Thanks.

Hi Jazz,
Congratulations on your recent birth and i'm sorry to hear your gestational diabetes decided to stay with you after the birth. May i ask if your breastfeeding? and are you finding time to test your bs? I know a new baby takes up 24 hrs in a day. What you need to do is get in touch with your post care midwife and get her to make an appointment asap with your diabetic consultant, don't take no for an answer. A happy healthy new mummy, will ensure both your baby's and your well being.
Keep an eye on your bs and avoid sugary snacks unless hypo, i know its convenient to grab a cuppa and a biscuit with a newborn, but try to resist. Count your carbs and inject appropriately, is all i can advise,
Take care and get in touch with your health team asap,
Suzi x
