Getting car insurance money back if you can't drive

If you find out part way through an 'insurance year' that you cannot drive for the rest of that year (say DVLA), can you get the remaining insurance premium back? the car that was insured, is now an ex-car. So currently I have insurance for a non-existent car, and DVLA say I cannot drive for a while.

I thought maybe someone here would have experience of this what with possible problems re: driving caused by diabetes eg hypos, eyesight (it is not diabetes related, why I can't drive (I assume)).

Some companies allow pro data refunds some don't sometimes its in the policy docs

You can only ask them, just remember it's not their fault you don't need the insurance!

You may have to pay a cancellation fee too depending on what company you are with, so this would reduce any refund you may get. Some companies charge £50 for the priviledge!!
Good luck.

Hi HLW
if you contact the insurers you will find there might be a one off fee to release you from the contract (you don't have to disclose your reason for opting out) Thats entirely up to you.
Hope this helps :D

hi hlw .
my motto is ask the worst they can say is no
perhaps if they say no you may be able to freeze the policy until you can drive a car.
either way sorry yo hear they have stopped you from driving whether its health reasons or not its still hard i hope you can get back behind the wheel soon

Example
My car Insurance started in November cost me £480 for the year
2 and a bit months later Feb I had to cancel. Due to heath i only revived £90 back :(
I asked but would not budge.

Hay ho

I spoke to the insurance company, I can't get a refund as I have claimed on the policy this year. So if anyone is in a similar situation, but hasn't claimed on the policy, it's worth checking as you might get a refund.

They said I could cancel the policy, but as I would get no money back I didn't see the point!

Ah well. At least they were quick about getting me the money for the car, and gave a very fair valuation of it (more than I paid for the car in the first place!!). So they aren't all bad.
