Wasn't really sure what to call this topic, basically want people's input and experiences. I think we all been through a type of bumpy ride or 2. For years I've felt rough, sugars were high was so unhappy life was a struggle. I gained weight because I had no energy or drive. Small tasks were hard. I felt like giving up if I'm honest. I didn't want to always feel so ill. The last few months my doctor changed my meds and over night my life changed. I have energy again, drive. Lost all the weight I put on. And all my blood results are pretty perfect. It feels so great. I gained weight since I was diabetic. And only had the energy and drive to lose it all since it been under control. Was never about eating wrong etc. Was just feeling so rough and low that took control. Is that the same for everyone? I guess we all different. But would like to hear your story's.

Glad to see that you have successfully navigated that great river in Egypt (De Nile) and are seeing improved results at last. I think most of us go through this stage, often more than once. For me I found that finally getting GP support for self monitoring was my key. Once I was able to see how my meds and diet were affecting me, then I was able to take control and I too have had good improvement in my condition. I am sure in my case the feeling that there was nothing I could really do since I was running blind led to lethargy and sloth and yes, depression, because I was not able to control my care. Now I feel empowered, and I decide what I do with my body. When I started LCHF diet, i just told my GP and we discussed hypo's, and then he doubled my strip allocation so I could do it sensibly.

I increased my exercise regime and now I can only walk yards, in pain and numb foot. I've messed myself up. I was doing plenty already but people see me big and assume I'm inactive. I am now! I'm very annoyed with myself. I know my body better than anyone. I was forcing too much extra activity too soon. Just hoping only a trapped nerve. :-(

That's a great message @Sco81 - especially at a time of the year when so many find it hard getting back onto the wagon after the Christmas festivities.

What changes did the doc make to your meds? If you don't want to share, that's clearly absolutely fine, but sometimes we can see something in a post that resonates and inspires an action or a question to the medics.

Good luck with it all, and all the best for a great 2016.

My diabetes runs in my family sadly I was around 28 when I got it. I'm now 34. I was healthy very active etc. I tried low carb diets and been through an array of medications. A couple actually made me so ill I ended up in hospital. I eat 3 times a day at set times. As always. I take victoza in the morning. At lunch I take 2 glitgazide total of 160mg. And 2 metformin total 1000 mg. it's quite a lot of meds I know. My diet is still low carb but now my fasting bloods are always between 4 and 5. And 2 hours after meals always below 7.5. Usually they average around 5 or 6. But most importantly for me I feel like my old self again. I've lost 2st. Which I gained from when I fell ill.

I also must point out that getting a phone app to remind u to take meds is a huge help. I never ever forget to take a dose.
