Getting enough test strips

I was diagnosed with type 2 about 3 yrs ago and on on insulin, getting along fine, my doctor has now changed to a new monitor ( TrueYou ) but only prescribed one box of testing (50) which last a week or so. Does this mean a visit to the chemist every week or should I get enough for the usual 8 weeks, I drive which means I could use more and I don't want to lose my license if I run short, Is this the new way. I used the get 200 and more if needed. Any advice.
 
As you are on insulin, you need to have the number you used to get previously. @noblehead can provide you with the appropriate letter.
 
Could be a oversight as 4ratbags says, maybe ring them and ask why you've gone from 200+ to 50 strips.

@tim2000s, I'm not sure if the letter from the Dept of Health will be applicable to the OP as they have type 2 diabetes (as the letter makes reference to type 1's), but it shouldn't really matter as they manage their diabetes using insulin so here is the letter regardless:
