Hi all. My Daughter has Type 1 Diabetes, she was diagnosed when she was a teenager and is an adult now and doing well in life: job, car, home, partner etc. After moving out to her own home she struggles with her condition but always tells me she's fine and not to worry. At Christmas she asked me to download the Libre Linkup app so that I can help her to monitor things, and I am pretty concerned at what I see. Her readings are always high, the graph line is erratic and the log of recent readings is almost always in the high teens (sometimes in the 20s). When I ask her about it she plays it down and tells me "I'm trying, you don't know how hard it is", so I am at a loss as to what I can do. I have insisted that I am present at the next Diabetes appointment she has and I am hoping for some good advice there - I have several books on the condition but a lot of what I read doesn't seem relevant to her experience. So ... I'm hoping that joining this forum will inform me so that I can properly advise my Daughter with genuine tried and tested solutions from people who know first hand. Then maybe, eventually, we can advise someone else in the future as to what works and what doesn't. I look forward to any and all advice, please don't hesitate to ask if you need more information.

I'm sorry to hear your daughter is having a hard time managing her diabetes.

Has she ever done a DAFNE course to help her get more insight on how to decide on insulin doses? This may be very helpful.

Hi, no I wasn't even aware this existed. Looking on the DAFNE website it seems the clinic she is already registered with is a DAFNE centre, so I will discuss this with my Daughter today. If she knows about it she has never mentioned it to me. Thank you for the advice.

Sorry to hear about your daughter. Has she talked to her diabetes team about the difficulties she's having? Is she on injections or a pump? If she's not on a pump, it would be worthwhile asking her diabetes team if she could have one, to help bring her blood sugar into a normal range.

Hi. She's trying to get an appointment with the team now but they are really dragging their feet. It may be because she hasn't taken their advice in the past, (she's very headstrong and it does her no favours). She's been telling me everything's ok for years, it's only since Christmas that I've been privy to her Libre readings and that's why I'm alarmed now. She doesn't have a pump so maybe that is something we will discuss when we finally get a sit down with the professionals. I'm just worried now that if she doesn't get it into a steady routine soon it will lead to serious health complications when she's older. We need that chat with the Team I think, then at least I will know what I'm talking about. Once we've had it I will post feedback here because it may help someone in a similar position.

Hi, I discussed DAFNE with my Daughter last night and she knew all about it. I asked her if she thought it might help to go over it all again as a refresher if nothing else and she agreed that it probably would. We are waiting for an appointment to see the Diabetes Team - that may take a while it seems.
