[QUOTE="Patch13, post: 415705, member: 58178"] Hi Hornplayer. I hope you are feeling more positive today and a little less lost. There's some really good advice from other members above but I just thought i would add in what I'm doing too which is different to the above. After reading Dr Bernsteins Diabetes Solution I have started to low carb. I eat less than 30g of carbs each day which come from vegetables. I'm now in my 8th month of doing it (although I did cut down on carbs slowly at first). I have to say I haven't lost a huge amount of weight and it is very slow to come off, but my real motivation for doing it is my blood sugars, trying to feel less tired and stop feeling so hungry all the time. Weight loss is just a bonus! (I'm a type 1 by the way but I'm unsure if this makes a difference to weight loss or not) In the past I have tended to diet and exercise and then fall of the wagon and eat everything in sight (consisting mainly of sweet things! - I too had a poor relationship with food). So far I have only had one fall off the wagon in my 8 months (this is somewhat of a record for me as usually a diet would have lasted 1-2 months at the most). The thing that really keeps me motivated is fantastic blood sugar readings and feeling better. Yes sometimes I look at biscuits and think how lucky others are to eat them, but then i remember it isn't worth it for me to upset my blood sugars and ill eat something alternative (like jelly- I love jelly!) As someone above suggested you need to think of your new way of eating as a lifestyle change and not a diet for a while. When people ask me how long I'm doing my diet I reply "forever" as that is how I see it. Whatever way of eating you choose it needs to be one that you feel you can sustain and enjoy. I never thought I would enjoy food without carbs but I really do. However choose something that suits you and works for you. It is also a good idea to find someone to support you if possible. Luckily my husband eats the same way I do so it means its easier at dinner times. At first he was skeptical but then he found he really enjoyed this way of eating too. With whatever way of eating you choose good luck and keep positive!
