My local surgery does blood tests on a Tuesday. I need to go in fasting but where I struggle is I always wake up early and so hungry it hurts. What I'm asking is if anyone has any good tactics or knows of alternative ways of getting blood checked. Thanks in advance

My surgery makes sure that fasting patients are seen fairly early during the morning session. I expect they all behave similarly. You could try sleeping in or drinking water. Both are allowed.

My surgery always gives me the paperwork for the tests, as they themselves only do very urgent bloods. The majority of patients, requiring routine tests will have blood drawn at the local Health Centre which is just up the road from the practise.

As that can mean a wait of some weeks (they're busy), I can rock up to either of the main hospitals where they have walk in blood clinics (provided you have the paperwork), as they draw blood of the various hospital departments. They start at 8:00, weekdays, and finish taking blood at something like 16:30.

Although it's about 15 miles down the road, to either, I often take up that option as it means I can have the blood taken sooner and it's analysed in the same hospital lab, so the blood is inevitably "fresher" when it gets there. The results are then back within a couple of days. On the day I choose to go, when it fits in with other things, I just make sure I'm in there for 08:00 as the traffic in tends to be easier that early too.

I don't know where you are located, but it could be worth investigating?

If you google your city followed by blood tests then you will see that there are loads of alternatives to using your G.P. surgery.

I am sorry but I can think of no other way of getting a fasting blood test other than by fasting. You as has been said can have a small amount of water and try and ensure you are given an early appointment. Other than that you just have to grin and bare it.

But make sure you have something to eat immediately after wards.
