At present, the NHS view is that everyone who has had high BG for any length of time should get the eye screening, as it stops being going blind. There is at present not enough data to know if having BG controlled by diet removes the risk of eye problems, as the problems show up some time after high BG.
Your GP is also paid more if you have Type2 to cover the costs of AC1 tests etc, and I think that anyone who has ever had issues with Type2 should have AC1 tests done at least once a year.
