Hi my partner has type one diabetes we have been together for over a year been trying to get pregnant wondering if anyone has any advice also he has mood swings is this normal x

Hey Gail , I've seen no one has replied yet so thought I'd say hello , I'm sorry but I haven't got any advice as your in an opposite situation to me being that your partner has the diabetes .
I know that the mood swings can happen when blood sugars are changing either high or low , I know I can get grouchy when my bloods are higher than normal .

good luck with the baby trying , take care

Hey Gail

Although the link between (uncontrolled) diabetes on female infertility is well established the same can not be said for male infertility.

Diabetes may often cause erectile dysfunction or retrograde ejaculation in males but none of these would stop something like IVF from working.

One study, which was based on a limited sample though, suggested that the sperm of diabetic men although appeared normal under the microscope, exhibited a higher degree of DNA abnormalities than their non diabetic counterparts. Such abnormalities could lead to difficulty in conceiving.

The good news is that the better controlled glucose levels are the higher the chances of success.

Good luck.
