One thing that really threw me when I started this Type 1 lark was how to keep up the level of exercise I was used to without either massive hypos or going too far the other way. I think I've cracked it for the bike at the moment (although that could all change any moment).
Three hours last week out with the bike club, and two hours out on my own today. I've been testing every half hour (very understanding fellow club members happy to stop for me, I think they were more worried than I was last week) and it's beeen working good.
Last week I went with 15g carbs every 15 mins and teh half hourly BGs went like this
7.9 - 30 mins befor setting out, after a bowl of porridge, half my basal and one unit bolus
6.5
5.8
5.6
6.8
6.3
6.3
7.7 - after a 55g carb bolus when I got home
And no hypo 2hrs later.
Today
4.9 before breakfast. 3 units basal,1 unit bolus, porridge again
forgot to take a reading before setting out
6.3
6.1
6.2
6.4
half hourly readings, with a 30g every half hour today, and 30g when I got home
6.4 pre lunch, 6.0 after
Looking good. I've done a few runs as well, but they tend to be more up and down, not quite got the carb intake nailed down yet. It'll be interesting to see how the colder weather affects things this winter.
