Getting used to lower BG levels. - advice needed !

I've recently got a free upgrade to Nova rapid twice a day and I'm struggling with BG levels.
Because I've had relatively high levels for a long time, as my levels drop to around 6-7 I get mild hypo symptoms which are very uncomfortable, and because of the insulin this is regular (2-3 times a day). I find it hard to deal with this as my body says I'm hungry but my brain says I can't be. So I end up eating to maintain a physically comfortable level of around 7-8.
Has anyone experience of this and how they dealt with it.
Help much appreciated.

Hi Dingbat,

I get the same sort of feelings when my blood sugars are in the 4 - 6 range (if I have increased my background insulin for example), accompanied by headaches. I find it takes a week or two for my body to get used to the lower levels. So maybe try and persevere, your body should soon adjust. If you're feeling hungry then you really should eat, I find snacking on cashew nuts keep me going and stops me from going too low or too high.

All the best, Jessie.

Dingbat,

As Jessie states, do persevere and in time your body will adjust to the lower numbers. As you have been running high over a period of time, it is a common symptom to feel low (hypo) when in fact your bg is in normal range. Just remember to test regularly so that you don't actually go hypo without realising, more so now you are using a fast acting insulin such as novorapid, and always keep some quick-acting glucose to hand.

you will adapt if you don't give up and you will feel full of energy

I had similar problems when I started insulin a week ago, woke up in the night with some hypo symptoms and a blood sugar level of 4.1 the first night, it took just days for readings between 4-5 to feel normal. So just don't give up, your body will adjust soon!
