Type 2 Glicacide

I've been prescribed Glicacide...again. I'm upset cos the last time I took it I gained 7kg, and can't afford to gain any more weight cos Im already a large lady, that's why I stopped taking it, and just took Metformin on it's own, but then I got a tremendous thirst and when I checked blood sugars, found they were 15.09. I saw my Diabetic Professional yesterday and was offered a weekly injection. I turned that down so my DP said it was either the jab or Glicacide. I asked if there was anything else I could take. I can't take Sitaglyptin cos it gives me diahorreah. She said there is us a new tablet being released to the NHS and she will put me forward for it. So, whilst I'm waiting, I chose the Glicacide as the lesser of the two evils, but how can I keep my weight in check.
I will be 68 on Monday.
 
First, Gliclazide itself does not cause weight gain. What it does is make the pancreas produce more insulin and if you eat too many carbs you will gain weight. So, you must reduce your carb intake. Set 150gm/day as the max start point and less if you can.
 
Out of curiosity why did you turn down the jab? (Tried it myself, wasn't painful but didn't work for me) did the nurse mention one of the SLG2 inhibitors for consideration? canagliflozin, dapagliflozin, or empagliflozin. These work by holding excess glucose in your urine and you pee them out, they can cause thrush if you don't drink enough and DKA if you try and follow a keto diet. but reducing your carb intake really is your best bet. Was it just Sitaglyptin that caused your upset stomach are there are other gliptins.
