Seasoned type 1 of over 50 years here.

Please don't be afraid of a hypo.
Its part and parcel of taking medications that lower our sugar levels.

I can operate quite normally until i reach 3.0 mmol then i get a bit confused and can become quite ratty according to my wife.
I always have jelly babies about my person and 5 of the little beauties bring my levels up quickly.

If you feel ratty then I bet you bite those jelly babies heads off!

Think this is worth pointing out to you @mack76 as you have received lots of tips on treating a hypo but you need to be aware of false hypos

As your BG have been running so high, as they come down when you start the meds you could possibly experience something called false hypos. These aren’t real hypos but your body trying to get you back to what it’s been used to running at so your liver dumping glucose to keep you at the high number.

They will feel like a real hypo, shaky, sweaty, disoriented etc. this is why it’s important to test your BG with a finger prick test at these times to establish if it’s a true hypo (anything under 4 is a true hypo) anything above 4 although you may feel pretty ropey it’s best to try & ride them out as so that your body gets used to running where it’s supposed to. The more you do this the quicker your body will get used to it. If you are driving you need to be “5 to drive”

Treating a hypo if you are 3.9 or under a small amount of fast acting carbs such as 3 or 4 jelly babies or 2 or 3 dextrose tablets should be bring you up quite quickly - test again in 15 minutes to check it’s rising - you may then need to have 10-15g of slower acting carbs to keep you in range. I’ve added a link below to explain treating hypos more. It’s more directed to insulin users but it applies to those on BG lowering meds too,

I’ve included a link to the patient leaflet that comes with Gliclizide so you can have a read if you wish. As with all patient leaflet they can be a bit scary & need to be read calmly & logically
