Gliclazide and rash

Been put on gliclazide 80mg daily about 7 weeks ago. Developed a rash on trunk, legs, arms etc about 7 days ago. Went to a walk in centre today and was told it was the gliclazide. Have been told to continue taking it. Anyone else developed a rash when taking this medication? How long did you have it for?

Feel like changing my name to itchy.

Ditched Gliclazide, because It put my weight into an uphill spiral, but never had a rash

I haven't seen this particular side effect for gliclazide but of course you could be affected. You will only know if this is the cause if you stop the drug, get over the rash, restart the drug and it comes back.

There are however drugs that are in my opinion better for diabetes than gliclazide, so perhaps you could use the rash as a reasonable reason to try something else?

I take gliclazide and suffer from a similar rash which recurs every so often. It appears to be a fungal infection as Canestan and Lamisil creams clear it up within a few days. I understand that it's fairly common for diabetics to suffer from such infections, (thrush and athlete's foot are similar), so it might be worth asking your doctor if this is the cause.

If it helps, I find that a really hot bath tends to relieve the itching, as does an over the counter cream called Eurax which contains Crotamiton.
