Gliclazide and the DVLA

My nurse/practioner told me yesterday that it is now a requirement from the DVLA that I take my blood sugar reading prior to driving as I take Gliclazide.
I left the surgery, and after thinking about this, I could find no reference on the DVLA web site about this.
If I have to take a measurement, do I take it before or after taking Gliclazide, and if afterwards, how soon afterwards?
Does one measurement suffice for the whole day, or is it correct that I was told I have to take another measurment again if I am about to drive for longer than 2 hours?

You should take a bg reading each time you get behind the wheel and if its a long journey then stop and test again
Remember to put glucose tablets in the car along with your water
Better to be safe for you and others on the road

Good advice from Alliebee, also I would recommend that you inform both the DVLA and your own insurance company of both your diabetes and medications as a precaution, as the majority of Insurance companies are notorious in evading claims if they possibly can, and failing to inform them of your diabetes or change in diabetic medication may well in their eyes, invalidate your current insurance policy should you be unfortunate to have to make any accident claim.
