Gliclazide or Insuline

Hi everyone,

So I have been given the dreaded gliclazide, all be it a low dosage, and straight away I experienced rapid weight gain and so I went back to my docs. He basically said I will almost certainly have to go onto insulin in the next year. I had found that for the first couple of years I had managed to keep things just about under control and then last year which was incredibly stressful due to work and working away from home for a good chunk of the year I saw my levels completely spiral out of control.

So they want me to take it for another 2 months to see if I see any drop in my levels. Even though I resent the side effects I am realistic and want to try and avoid moving up to insulin if possible.

Going to try and drastically increase the amount of exercise I can do and hope that helps, but I see a lot of people say just go to insulin as it will make your life easier. I am torn because I am up at 5 in the morning and dont get back until 730 so I feel that I am running on autopilot.

Also I find that I hate most of the suggested meal plans. (I haven't gone through the one here yet so I am hopeful!!). Any other suggestions as to how to deal with gliclazide?

I cannot help you with your drug selection I am afraid but I think you will find the same weight gain from taking insulin as all you are doing with both therapies is increasing your fat storage hormone.

Can I ask what your diet currently consists of and what have you tried prior to this point. We may be able to assist you. If you can exercise more it will help but lowering your bodies insulin levels will help the most.

Hi. Weight gain with Gliclazide or insulin will usually be thru eating too many carbs. How many carbs do you have in a typical day? Exercise is always good but not as useful as the right diet to control weight and blood sugar. It sounds like you have stressful job and may be snacking a lot during the day?
