gliclazide, type 2 and the police

whoa.. in the UK do you have a license that lists your medical condition as a diabetic? like, how would cop know ?

Hi, yes you declare it to the DVLA and I guess if the Police do a licence check that info could be made available to them. Your licence is also restricted to just 1, 2 or 3 years!! Then you have to renew it by filling in yet more forms and maybe a special eye test, medical etc.

That sucks :/ Canada works on a system where the responsibility is up to the doctor to initiate and file the paperwork if they deem someone unfit to drive, so unless they initiate that movement the government assumes everyone is fine.

Seems like the UK works backwards to that and assumes everyone with Diabetes is unfit to drive unless proven fit....

Pretty much!! You must test before driving and be 5 or above, correct between 4 or 5 and if below 4 correct and wait 45 mins. Some of my american friends run A1Cs in the 4s or low 5s, virtually impossible here as you would rarely be high enough to drive!!!!

There's also a code on the licence if you wear glasses to see the distance, no glasses and you are in trouble as well.
