I agree that this needs to be based on a GAD/C-peptide result. If it's MODY then your treatment will be entirely different than if you're 1.5/LADA.
My personal experiences with gliclazide have been poor. It worked for a minimal amount of time, but I think by the time we need extra insulin production as 1.5/LADA (which gliclazide triggers) it's really just time for insulin injections. Gliclazide caused massive rollercoasters in my levels as one time I'd be running ridiculously high while the other I kept getting hypos with minimal exercise. I was exhausted from trying to manage my diet while dealing with these random insulin bursts my pancreas put out.
I was taking gliclazide until December 2016, January 2nd I ditched it and started insulin full time. As you can see from my signature, my HbA1C went down massively within 6 months just from having proper control.
If you are indeed 1.5/LADA then I'd inquire about starting insulin instead. If your insulin output is so poor already that you need gliclazide, then you might as well start insulin.
