I have been T2 for 15 years and 6 months ago was changed from Metformin to Gliclazide to help lower hba1c.
Self testing my blood sugar is higher than ever since changing medication. Regularly 22 blood sugar reading and i can’t get it down.
Has anyone else found Gliclazide hasn’t worked for them?

I have doctors this week and i’m wondering whether they will put me on insulin.
I’m constantly tired and blood sugars are at highest they have ever been.

Any thoughts appreciated

Hi,
My Mum has been in Metformin and Gliclazide for a while now and a GP told her last year to take the Gliclazide 20 mins before food with Metformin with or straight after. It doesn’t say this on the patient information leaflet though. Maybe you could ask your GP’s opinion. She’s struggling to manage medications due to her age and forgetfulness so I’m more aware of her meds now. Her levels having been climbing and I’m here to look up info for her review tomorrow. I was also reading about how some foods like potatoes have more resistant starch if cooked and cooled.
Hope this helps and good luck

What kind of diet do you follow, what are your meals like? Are those high numbers after meals or fasting as well?
Regularly 22 blood sugar reading
Do you have a way to test for ketones? Those are potentially dangerous levels.
By all means contact A&E if you develop nausea, stomach ache or funny breathing.

I'm a bit puzzled, you joined less than 7 years ago, when you were newly diagnosed.
You also have a father who developed T1 as an adult. https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/34-male-and-diagnosed-as-type-2.117345/
It might be worth asking for a C-peptide test to see how much insulin you are producing yourself.

Good luck!
