Glimepiride is not a common medication in the UK it seems. Usually we have USA posters using it, but not very often. It is a sulfonylurea drug, and nowadays doctors tend to use the second generation version such as Gliclazide. Glimepiride is a first generation drug, and as such may lead to burnout of the pancreas over time. The modern equivalent drug is not associated with burnout.

Since this drug can cause hypo's, you may need to inform DVLA if you are a driver. Also inform your insurance company.
The fasting blood sugar is the very last one to drop, because the liver will compensate for the long period of starvation (i.e. sleep) and boost the levels so you have the energy to wake up and face the day. This is using stored glucose in the liver, which acts like a battery.
