I woke up this morning and bs 13.5 so I took my 1st ever glipromide and just taken my bs now and it's 4.5 that's a drastic reduction as I've never ever been in the 4s for 15 yrs should I watch out for anything
Hi @maxjoe121 , did you mean gliclazide or glimepiride? Those are both medications called sulphonylureas. They make you produce more insulin to help your bg come down.I woke up this morning and bs 13.5 so I took my 1st ever glipromide and just taken my bs now and it's 4.5 that's a drastic reduction as I've never ever been in the 4s for 15 yrs should I watch out for anything
I took my bs again when I went to work and it was 11 when do I know if it's to low and eat something sugary , sorry I'm new to this med it's glimepiride, I'm so used to being 10 or above , just taken it before my meal tonight and it was 14 I just can't get used to these numbers as I haven't eaten since lunchHi @maxjoe121 , did you mean gliclazide or glimepiride? Yes, while 4.5 is a wonderfully healthy number, it's also close to hypo level, and this medication can cause hypos.
So what I would do if I were you is keep something sugary and your meter on hand in case you drop lower.
Test again if you feel funny just to make sure, and maybe test again anyway in a while to see what happens.
The good news is that the medication seems to work well for you, if perhaps a bit too well. Might be worth looking into the dosage with your diabetes nurse.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes!
You'll likely feel off if you go too low, and if you do a fingerprick test and it reads lower than 4 you'll want to eat something to go a little higher.when do I know if it's to low and eat something sugary
What did you eat between the reading of 4.5 and the reading of 11 before work?I took my bs again when I went to work and it was 11
I had some raisins as I got a bit scared of it going lower and a banana later on . What does a hypo feel like , would I pass out with one? You'll likely feel off if you go too low, and if you do a fingerprick test and it reads lower than 4 you'll want to eat something to go a little higher.
If you drive, you'll want to nudge your bg up at 5, you don't want to go too low while behind the wheel.

It's very unlikely you'd pass out, most probably you'd feel a bit off, shakey, maybe sweaty, a hard time thinking straight, possibly a tingly mouth, maybe a sudden hunger.I had some raisins as I got a bit scared of it going lower and a banana later on . Going from 4.5 to 11 shows you that raisins plus a banana were more carbs than you needed to nudge your bg up, so next time try with a little less?
Take your time learning and finding the patterns your meter shows you after medication and food, no hurry!
