I've posted about this on the 'famous' thread but think it might be more appropriate here.

There was a segment on this evening's One Show with Gloria Hunniford talking about T2, about her being pre-diabetic and about controlling it with a low carb diet. It was to advertise a programme of hers being shown next week (in the mornings) on BBC2 called Food: Truth or Scare.

Nice to see the low carb thing moving out in to the main stream. My co-workers were interested that my 'weird diet' isn't so weird after all - their reasoning was that it can't be THAT weird if Gloria Hunniford is talking about it on The One Show.
 
It is strange low carb dieting is not the recommended diet. Before insulin was discovered it was the only treatment for type 1 diabetics

That's right Shar67 it was, plus the opium, arsenic and sulphuric acid :eek: but we didn't last very long, most wasted away and died :(
 
I watched this just now - she need to so something about her poor dogs weight too - they are a pair of fatties and will probably end up with heart problems - a serious problem in that breed as I've discovered to my cost with Cavaliers half the size of hers...:(:mad:

The Diabetes UK lady she spoke to seemed to be recommending a low calorie diet though...

That will be because Diabetes UK is not onboard with Low Carb as yet. It is onboard with the NHS approach.
 
I'd just expected her to be talking to low carb advocates after reading Chook's post...I think I didn't quite say what I was meaning!:D

PS I actually made the very fortunate mistake of ending up here after being recommended the other site by my diabetic nurse when I was first diagnosed!!
 
I hope that no one was expecting a Daytime TV program fronted by GH and a greengrocer to be a "serious" examination of any subject, other than maybe the price of Carrots:confused:
 
Just watched it. It didn't have the content that was advertised on The One Show at all. The way it was advertised was that it would focus on a low carbs diet - not all that stuff about milk and slow release carbs. Disappointing.
 
Tomorrow's episode is about how diabetes can be controlled by diet. I think it will probably be more about Low Carbohydrate diet than LCHF though.
 
Yes Ive just watched today's programme on catch up thinking it was about low carb. Apparently tomorrow's programme is about diabetes.
