Why can't you carry your own lightweight rucksack?!? What if you lose your husband?!?! For day trip use, a small medicine tub or 35mm film container is ideal. Then empty to larger one left in hotel room.
Valid point there, copepod ... could lose him ?
Hope not thou !!!
Will get a small plastic tub then transfer sharps to larger one left in hotel room.
Might get a smaller rucksack for the hubby , easier to manage and lug about ?
He's a gent and am sure wont mind just for me....
What letters do I need from the GP ? Does my GP do the script for hypo pack or do I have to buy it?
Thanks for all your help and suggestions .

Get as generic as possible letter from you GP ie not just for one holiday, as GPs tend to charge for writing such letters. Diabetes Specialist Nurses at hospital clinics tend to write letters for free.

Presumably you go into separate toilet blocks?!?

Hi Anna

Well everybody I,m off again on yet another story but it is very true, in January this year i was looking forward to the new year but it started off bad
It was the 2nd week in Jan 2011 I picked up a very bad chest infection and was fighting for my breath, i went to my doctors, the doctor found my oxygen level very low and blood pressure very high, I was sent straight to hospital via a ambulance with all blue light flashing, when I arrived they put me on oxygen apperatus and steriods etc, this screwed up sugar levels, I was injecting so much insulin to get the levels down it was unbeleivable, after a few days I was sent home told not to go back to work.
After about 2 week I got a little better but was on inhalers and a very strong steriod, I went back to work and everybody was shocked as I was finding it hard to get through the day.
When I got home in the evening after bath/dinner I would sit on the setee and JADE (my Cat) would cddle up to me, well this surprised me but my wife said she can detect that you are not well.
Anyway I got over the chest infection, but Jade still insisted that every night she had a cuddle, I could,nt really understand why she was being extra close to me.
In March this year I went to a garden centre with the wife (on a Sunday) we were walking back to the car when I got asudden pain in the RH side of my chest, it was like some had stuck a knife in,
I had to stop walking as it me for a six, my wife said are you OK, I replied just a very sharp pain, after a few minutes I walked back to my 4 wheel drive but the pain started up again
When we got back to the 4 wheel drive my wife said are you Ok to drive? yes I,m Ok I said.
When I got home I sat on the setee and Jade cuddled up to me as if she could detect something.
Anyway this went on for a few days the odd pain in the chest on the RH side but not to strong, I made an appointment to see my GP and explained to him the chest pains. This was on the Thursday I spoke to my GP, well when I got home on the Friday there was a letter from the hospital, they booked me in to do some test at the end of March, the letter stated to phone their number and confirm the appointment, it did state it would be an answer phone and to leave amassage.
Anyway I rang this number and expected to leave a message but this voice was at the other end and I told them I would be with them at the end of March for the tests, this lady asked me how i was feeling, i told her the odd pain but not too bad after a long discussion she told me to put the phone down and dial 999, I told her I would but I did,nt.
My wife said what did they say to you, I told her that I was booked in at the end of the month but did not tell her they told me to dial 999.
I had the odd pain over the weekend but ignored it, they rang my wife at home and asked how i was, she told them I had the odd pain but I was not to bad.
The hospital rang me at work on the Monday and insisted that I come straight into hospital, well I went home and my wife had all my bits packed as the hospital rang my wife to tell her I was going into hospital. I got home at about midday and when I got in I sat down on the setee with a cup of tea and bags packed ready for hospital, Jade jumped up on my lap and rapped her paws around me as if she knew something was wrong, I went into hospital on the Monday, I saw all these heart consultants and told them about the pains etc, I finally got to the thearter on the Wednesday at about 4.30pm, I thought this was a waste of time as nothing was wrong with me.
In thearter they told me that they were going to look at my heart and was going to go through my groin. After about an 1/2 hour of pushing and shoving and cameras scanning my body, the surgon puled back the curtain and said MR Baum you have 90% damage on your main conoary artery and if you had not of come in you would be dead within 24hrs.
My body shook like god knows what, they put 2 stents in, I am a lot better but I have some damage on the RH conoary artery but not enough for them to do any work.
My wife and I think Jade detected something and thats why she cuddles up to me, if only she could talk.
Anyway thats how it all went, and I am here to tell the story.

PS hope you have not been to bored reading this

My current cat is very good at keeping anyone who's feeling under the weather company - she sits on bed, sofa, wherever, acting as a furry & purring hotwater bottle. A previous cat was equally good, and is still fondly remembered by a friend who was staying and had to have a D&C operation - cat sat on her, which stopped her running around too much. Earlier cats have helped me revise for exams, as I didn't get up so often if they were on my lap. Current cat, (fortunately she's relatively small & light weight) has reflected changes in technology by sitting on my shoulders while I type.

Hi kev,
Thanks for your story, I enjoyed reading it.
You're one lucky guy thanks to your wonderful cat 'jade' I think she is saving your 9 lives!
Keep loving her to bits , she deserves it!

Hi All.
I know its been some time since last post on here.
Just to let you know today my GP gave a script for a GlucaGen HypoKit.
Interestingly today when I went to the chemists to pick it up, there were 2 other diabetics in at the same time.
We ended up having a right good chat together, even the pharmachist came out and joined in with us all.
All that was missing was a 'brew'!
I enjoyed it, having the chance to meet other diabetics and hear their chat etc...
As I never meet others except when I attend the "D" Clinic.
Clearly GlucaGen HypoKits are still available!
