Glucose meter

If you are T2 and are on any glucose lowering medication you will given one. Most of us self fund.

Can you get a glucose meter from doctors or do you have to buy one ?
When I was diagnosed end of April I was put on Glimepiride and given a Meter and prescribed strips but I think that was to check before driving in case of risk of hypo ,
And after 2 months I was going below 4 a few times with the Glimepiride and low carbing.
So my medication was changed to metformin but i am still getting the strips ( hope they don’t stop them ) .
No where near hypo anymore

Hi sorry for the bother but does anyone know if canagliflozin 100mg tablets are blood glucose lowering tablets? I'm on metaformin and canagliflozin thank you

In my experience and I bet most on here, unless you are on insulin doctors will not give a meter, strips or any form of self monitoring, it is all self funded

whilst there is some argument via the NICE guidelines, I think you will find it a hard discussion to get it prescribed:

https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ng28/chapter/1-Recommendations#blood-glucose-management-2 section 1.6.13

bydureon, metformin and daplfaglozin and any hint of using your own meter to test goes down like a lead balloon

I was on Gliclazide and given test strips as it is a lowering med, and risk of hypo if driving. The Meds in the family ending in flozin are also lowering and hypo risk. I was also put on that. GP should give on prescription, often if you don’t ask you don’t get!
