Hi: I've just bought a glucose monitor (Abbots) and have worn it for a week, to make sure results were stable). My HBA1C is 6.7. I'm cutting back on carbs and exercising daily, however, with a 6.7 reading should I be visiting doctor? Thanks
Hi: I recently bought a glucose meter (Abbots) and having worn it for a week, to ensure results were stable, my HBA1C reading is 6.7. I've cut back on carbs and am exercising more. My question - 6.7 seems only very slightly above the prediabetic numbers, so, should I go and see a doctor or give myself a couple of months to try and knock it down. I'm not really sure if the 6.7 merits seeing a doc at this point.
Hi.
It looks like you're running a little above the recommended numbers.
Smart move to embrace a lower carb approach.
Top tip for the day from me is Hi-Lo seeded wholemeal bread. Available from Sainsbury's.
5g of carb per slice. Been a game changer for me personally.
My Libre 2 is currently showing my Hba1c at 6%.
I've been type 1 for over 45 yrs now and currently getting best numbers I've ever seen.
Good luck with your levels going forward.
Remember if you choose to visit your doctor, that the medical establishment is still pushing the Eat Well plate as dietary advice.

Yes, I was told I was prediabetic a few years ago with reading (if I remember correctly) between 42 - 48 and then I got it down into normal range and haven't been tested for about 4 or 5 years. I got the monitor as I was trying a specific diet and saw it is now 6.7 (50) - I don't really want to go back to the doctors and wondered if the 6.7 is really so bad.

Why don't you want to go back to your doctor?
If it turns out you do have diabetes you'll have your eyes and feet and hba1c checked every once in a while, which can't be a bad thing.
Many people (including myself) have found that the estimated hba1c from a Libre sensor isn't too accurate.
