Hi
I use a Gluco RxQ monitor, with the associated test strips. I have a spring-driven lancet that I bought from Amazon years ago - I don't change lancets much. And I picked up a small protective hard case for the kit as the supplied pouch was a bit flimsy.
Manufacturers generally ensure that you have to use their strips in their machine. On the other hand, spring lancets all do the same job.
Some (as Gluco did) will give the monitor away free, as you're then locked into their product - unless you get another monitor. And the strips are the expensive part, usually. Even within a single manufacturer's products, strips may not be interchangeable - my five year old Gluco RxQ can't use the strips for the newer Gluco machines and vice versa.
I put old lancets in the bin with metal, plastic and glass.
My lancet thing is spring-loaded - but I don't have a problem with fingerpricking. It's the only model I've ever used. The accu chek fastclix seems to be similar to a lot of other lancet devices around, but I've no personal experience.
