My OH had his blood test monday , been borderline diabetic for ages. Wed we got a phone call from the receptionist to say his readings were up and he was diabetic, and would he go and see the nurse/doc. Gave us an appt for 3 weeks time. I said thats too long to wait, we need seen sooner so we are going tomorrow. I asked what the reading was & she said "16 and low ferritin" -- Does this make sense to anybody in here ??

Low ferritin, means anaemia. the 16 depends on what test they did. If it's HbA1c, that's VERY bad if just a blood glucose, not quite so serious, but bad enough. Look at the "stickies" to leearn about blood tests.

He has pernicious anaemia as well, maybe thats somethign to do with the iron. We need ask the doc about that one as well eh. TY and I will go and read more stickies !

Doc this morning moved his appt with the nurse forward to tomorrow. Says he will get a blood meter thingy and has to test 4 times a day. She said his blood sugar was 16 and his ferritin was 21, but she didn't offer any advice about the iron. So we will go back down tomorrow and hopefull things will sort themselves out in the weeks to come.

It'a quite hard to find supplement tablets which contain iron nowadays, because if you get too much it becomes toxic. My T1 husband has a bit of an iron problem, because he has Chronic Kidney disease. I did find some tablets for Men's health, with iron in.Nevertheless, In the end he had to have a ferritin injection. ( a hospital procedure)
I'm interested that a diabetes nurse is encouraging blood testing for Glucose. That's pretty rare. They normally tell people not to and give the silliest reasons. In my view it's essential. The target I would say is 5, because that's non-diabetic level and I can't see the sense in setting any other target. The "official "targets are a lot slacker than that. I think, because they are fairly easily attainable.
If your Husband is to find which foods affect him most and least. select one meal on a particular day and test before and 2 hours after and keep a note of the meal and the readings.
Then if he ends up in the podition of so many T2 diabetics and can't get test strips on prescription, He'll be equipped with knowledge.
Best of luck
Hana
