Could someone please tell me if you have to test your glucose before and after each meal every day? Thank you

You don't HAVE to test at any time, but the way to learn which foods you can manage without spiking your blood sugar levels is to test immediately before you eat, then again 2 hours after your first bite. Look at the difference in the readings. Ideally the rise should be as low as possible, definitely under 2mmol/l. If it isn't, there is some element of that meal that you need to seriously reduce in portion size, or cut out completely. Keep a food diary and record your levels alongside. You will soon see patterns emerging.

You can also test as soon as you get up in a morning, and just before you go to bed, but it is up to you.

Thank you. I need to learn, I've just been diagnosed. Not looking forward to finger pricks!

The important thing when buying a meter is low running costs, all meters are cheap to buy but the cost of test strips vary greatly. The SD CodeFree is a popular choice among forum members.

Thank you for that Sirmione
