Hi,

I had finally got my head round my new low carb diet (and quite enjoying it), BS and HBA1c really good, and managing well with injections etc. Really don't 'mind' having diabetes any more! Then, for the last 3 months or so I've been having what I think is an allergic reaction to certain foods. I've seen my Doctor and DN who both said to keep a food diary. But since this, the reaction (burning sore, bumpy face, sore tongue and mouth, racing heart) is happening whatever I eat. So I wake up in the morning feeling fine and gradually feel worse and worse with every thing I eat as the day goes on. I have booked another Drs appointment for a week Monday (!) I understand this may not be related to diabetes and that you wonderful people may not be able to advise me but I just felt like a moan! My social life has always revolved around food and now I have no pleasure in it at all. It's my birthday family meal thing tonight and I can't look forward to it. Winge winge winge ;) Whilst waiting for my Drs appointment I have read up on Histamine Intolerance, the way to diagnose it is to follow a histamine free diet for 4 weeks - so basically eat dust. Histamine is in everything and, having diabetes I feel I need to be in a routine with my eating.

Thanks Sandy,

It's good to know you can chat to people here. I don't always like to moan to my friends or family, I'm sure they don't want to hear it!

Jessie.

Sometimes it is better to have a good moan to none family members as then no body gets hurt!
We are always here to listen,.Trust me i do my own share of moaning! If we didnot moan then we would go mentally insane, Not enough wards to support that!Lol...
Have a good moan we all do, then you can feel so much better!
Sandy

It is plausible that it's not actually the food but the Lantus, may be worth discussing a change to Levemir which might fix the problem. You'll probably have to shoot this twice a day and it may take some dose adjustment from the Lantus, I've heard of allergic reaction to this more often than other insulins.

OTOH have you recently started any other medication which would be worth looking at first?

Sandy - thanks again. Trinkwasser, the problem has been going on since March and I've only recently started on an antibiotic for my skin (having stopped taking the contraceptive pill), and the reaction has got worse since then I must say. Hopefully it's something as simple as the Lantus. I've made the decision today to change my doctors surgery as it's impossible to get an appointment when you need one and they're forever getting my prescriptions wrong - giving me Novomix instead of Novorapid for example and telling me it will be 'fine' to use. Haha. Thanks for the advice - I'll definately be asking to change my basal, it's worth a try.

Much appreciated both. x

My husband had a burning tongue along with other things before he found out he had pernicious anaemia. He nearly ended up complaining to Tescos that their chilli con carne should be banned! It could be worth getting your B12, ferritin and folate checked as it may not be a food allergy. Some people also react to toothpastes so you probably need to check out this too.

Haha, well I hope he has it under control now. Folates was mentioned in my last appointment, so I'll ask about that too.

Thanks very much.
