Has anyone gone onto to this med but eventually got off it again please or will I be on this for life if I start it?
Very nervous to take it but my bloods are 115:(

I'm guessing you are talking about your HbA1c when you say your bloods are 115.
If you don't feel comfortable taking medication have you altered your diet? A HbA1c that high is either going to need drastic dietary changes or medication, it can't stay that high, personally that number would cause me far more anxiety than the medication.
And to answer your question, yes some T2's have managed to come off all sorts of different meds, including insulin

Hi thank you for your reply, it’s helpful to discuss, I have lost three stone but since covid 6 months ago my HBAIc has kept rising.
Very depressing when weight is so good.
I am studying personal training right now.

Can I ask can you still drink alcohol on glyclozide?
I hardly drink but would like to if I wanted a night out.

Thank you

I don't have any experience of this medication so really couldn't say if its OK to drink while taking it.
There should be an information leaflet in the box the meds are packaged in, that will tell you if alcohol is OK.

As a fan of Gliclazide, I have to warn that yes it does interact with alcohol. I find alcohol enhances the effect of the glic and can give me hypo's. Normally my dose of glic will drop my bgl by 2 mmol/l from a peak, but with alcohol it can drop 4 mmol/l.

I choose to stay on glic because I like the ability to eat some carbs and cover it with the glic, so I am currently able to eat a modicum of potatoes and toast without too much panic. I have reduced from 320 mg per day down to 40 mg a day and I am comfortable with that.

If partying, do you have a meter to check sugar levels? And make sure there is something like lucozade or a sugary drink nearby just in case. I am hypo aware so I can deal with it myself, but maybe let a friend keep a watchful eye out for you as a DES.

However, having said that, realistically if your HbA1c is 115 then you will probably not need to treat a hypo for some time yet. Just be aware that if your T2D is from inulin resistance, then the alcohol will force the glucose into storage and increase your girth and weight instead.

I agree with @Oldvatr I’m now on glic and has helped my levels keep low & because of the Glic I Can now have more varied diet also alcohol does make my levels drop a lot too But i also choose to stay on it as I was loosing too much weight with hardy eating many carbs and now I can have a few now and then. I’m really happy on glic . I keep glucose tablets in my bag and car at all times just in case of a hypo which the dr made me aware of but luckily I haven’t needed them as yet. Hope this helps you.

Ah thank you both this is great help, can I ask do you have to test daily x 3 day?
I am a beauty therapist I drive x5 day and use my hands for treatments
My doc has asked me test x3 day plus each time I drive- I am mobile and drive up to 5 times day

That will be up to 8 times my poor fingers. This another big worry I have . Thanks again sorry for all questions

High Five!

The doc told me to test morning and tea time twice a day it’s just cos the glic can make your levels go low just to keep a eye on them especially with driving its probably best to keep a check on them they would of gave you a monitor now you are on these tablets. You will find you can eat slightly more and still stay at good levels ...good luck and don’t worry I was the same when I first got put on them x
