Hi everyone, Im just looking for a bit of advice on travelling abroad. My daughter is 9 and has had diabetes for 3 years. We are due to go to Zante in August. I am a little bit worried about how the heat will affect her bloodsugars. She has a combo pump and I am also wondering if the heat might affect the pump or the blood sugar monitor. I would be greatful for any advice that anyone might have.martina.

We found that my daughter's readings went up rather than down when on holiday, but often people find the heat makes readings go down - I guess everyone reacts differently so test regularly and adjust basal rates as necessary. The heat shouldn't affect the pump or glucose monitor, but be careful to keep the pump out of direct sunlight if you can or avoid leaving it disconnected and in a hot car. Take plenty of extra supplies with you incase of delays returning from your holiday and make sure you take everything in your hand luggage. My husband and I split the supplies between us so that if one of us lost our hand luggage at least the other would have a spare set to fall back on. Check with your pump manufacturer, Animas will loan us a spare pump to take on holiday incase of a pump failure - with the spare already with us we wouldn't face delays of them getting a new pump to us if it was required. You'd need to make sure the spare and your daughter's pump both are insured. Have a lovely holiday
