Hi all
I have been a pump user for almost 4 years and recently decided to take a break and go back to mdi in preparation for a beach holiday. This has made me think about whether or not I want to return to using the pump! I have had quite negative feelings towards the pump over the last 6 months, my body confidence has been dented carrying this 'thing' around all the time, I never feel sexy and my latest hba1c has shown my control has gone out the window ( I test constantly and correct but don't make any changes based on the results). I feel quite guilty considering stopping the pump as I know so many people struggle to get one but really not sure it's the best way forward for me. Any thoughts?
Only you know your own body. If you feel uncomfortable wearing it and experiencing poor control it's a no brainer ! Go back to basal/bolus.
We're all different and there is no ideal diabetes treatment.
Yeah I totally agree, what's best for you and what your happiest with is the best form of treatment for you.
I felt similar when I had my children and was trying to breast feed, you feel by nt doing it your letting everyone dwn but Wat experience has taught me is to nt feel guilty for doing what is best for you. It's your life, your body and YOUR diabetes, you do what's best for you chick and dnt feel guilty about it Xx ;-)

My thoughts are that you shouldn't feel guilty Mrspuddle !
Pumping insulin isn't for everyone but in fairness they are generally well received by those who make the change, to say that yours is the first post on the forum to say that someone isn't happy would be a lie, just make sure you look at all the options available to you before making the change back.
Hi MrsMuddle,
I definitely wouldn't feel guilty about giving up your pump, if you don't like it it's your own personal choice, by giving up your pump you'd be letting someone else who is desperate to try one give it a go and it may be fantastic for them, so I definitely wouldn't feel guilty! Just make sure that will be the best decision for you. Good luck, Laura
Hi all thought I should give you an update! 3 weeks off pump and back from hols today and already back on the pump!! It took about 10 days for me to get completely sick of continuous jags and erratic sugars. Turns out a rest is as good as a change, thank you for all the advices
Yes:
1) learn from your pump and blood glucose readings;
2) work with your DSN regularly to improve your results;
3) use the Diasend software and infra-red reader for your pump and BG meter (depending upon the model, that is!)... go to www.diasend.com
4) adjust accordingly;
5) don't rush the downward trend if you've been running high for quite some time - or you'll end up exacerbating complications (my retinopathy got worse as a result of a push to lower my BG readings :sick: )
