Going on holiday - I met someone

No, this isn't a romance!
A guy was sitting next to me on the plane and commented that he couldn't have anything from the in flight service as he is diabetic. Me too! I said. He was T1, I am T2. He asked if I had heard of a low carb diet... yes, I've been doing that for 6 months since I was diagnosed! We had a good long chat about the benefits and all the nice things we can eat. I asked how he discovered it and he said his wife told him he was putting on weight and she looked on line for a diet for him to follow and found low carb. He said his numbers have improved and kept steady with this diet, and he had lost loads of weight.
It's the first time I've ever met a person in "real life" who understands the low carb diet.
 
It's great when you meet someone who 'gets it'!

Now, if we could all spread the word even more so airlines might offer food we actually want to eat? I've given up hope so always take food on board now - then I don't ruin a trip by eating nasty carbs
 
I see in sainsbury that you can get some low carb ready meals. So I think that the big money making food firms have decided that this idea has legs. I dont know anyone else that does this, but I am trying to convert a few! .

Well big pharma is now working on a pill that will " prevent the absorption " of carbohyrdates in the same way Orlistat is supposed to work for fats.

No doubt that process will not end well

I think the biggest danger in all of this is that what will happen is an explosion of new processed foods which will tout big health claims - The chances that they will be full of nutritious ingredients worth eating - is pretty close to zero in my book.

Instead we will have another round of supermarket shelves filled with stuff that pretends to be healthy whilst people are advised to toddle off to the doctor to get a pill that allows them to continue carbing up in all you can eat " buffet of rubbish " call me a cynic !

I haven't seen them. What are they called?
 

Trust me, it's regimented (many times by the catering company and not the airline despite the fact they comply with IATA regs) and meal types form a long list. There is not one for diabetics .... yet

I tried to order food for a diabetic in a hotel -( I did explain the issue) for some reason they concluded that that meant I was vegan!
