what are you blood sugar levels ? you do test then I imagineHi All
About a month ago I went for one of the age related health checks, weight, height, cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar.
came away with a result of high sugar and blood pressure. Wasn't entirely surprised, I'd had people mention Id lost weight, had been feeling thirsty more and peeing more at night. Ignored it for longer than I should have.
Anyway followed that up with a face to face with the Dr, she sent me for a blood test for pretty much everything, from liver function, to prostate. Everything normal apart from sugar levels very high.
She put me straight on Metaformin and Gliclazide, more tests, stool, urine, another blood, and today a CT scan.
Since I went the original health check, cut out anything potatoe based food, no fizzy drinks, no added sugar in tea / coffee or cereal and white rice is out
Added more fish, steak, chicken, mushroom, peppers, garlic, eggs, blueberries, strawberries to my diet food bills gone up, not touched a canned food since original health check.
When you analyse your diet its crazy how bad for sugar levels it can be.
Getting on the exercise bike more.
I was probably a stone to stone and half more than I am now, My weight at the moment is pretty much spot on for my height.
Do seem to be keeping my sugar levels a lot more in the normal range now.
The biggest downer is I go a lot of music festivals. And its always been nice have a few drinks over weekend , looking like I'll have to miss the drinking side.

Unless it's a sweet wine, wine is much lower carb than beer. I take insulin for beer, but not for half a bottle (or more) of red wine. (Dry white should work as well, but yuck.)wine is roughly equal to beer in terms of carb content.
Hi, still waiting for a full diagnosis, over the last couple of weeks, done 2 bloodtests, stool, urine , CT scan today. got another follow up with the Dr beginning of November. but she's put me on tablets straight off.@steve[emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji[emoji6][emoji6]][emoji6] did they do other tests to establish you were definitely type two. Just a heads up your age is not a barrier to getting Type One. There are many of us here with a later diagnosis. The fact that you lost weight tends to be a bit of a red flag. Don’t assume.
Alcohol certainly lowers my BG, although it takes a bit of quantity for that to become evident. I've had one particularly nasty experience. While the liver is metabolising alcohol, that process is stopping the liver making and releasing glucose (which is one of the things livers do). If in addition you've got medication that advises no, or limited, alcohol it would be sensible to follow the advice. Thanks for that, my big worry with the alcohol is Ive read it lowers blood sugar, Also with the tablets it says 2 units per day. Don't want have levels at nearly normal then go even lower with a drink so my plan is avoid alcohol, or 1 pint with food and do
Sorry. I had the low carb beers in my head typing that - I think those are the ones roughly equivalent to (non-sweet) wines. Traditional beers are considerably more carby.Unless it's a sweet wine, wine is much lower carb than beer. I take insulin for beer, but not for half a bottle (or more) of red wine. (Dry white should work as well, but yuck.)
