Going Up

Husband is type 2, still diet controlled after 10 years. Lately his morning readings have been going up, now into the mid 7s every day. He has just tested two hours after breakfast and he is 11.4 - this is unheard of for him. He always takes a plate of porridge and it's always been ok until now. He usually tests in the 6s at this time. He's in a state here lol - any suggestions as to the cause or what to do about it please? Ta !
 
Sounds rather like his body has decided porridge no more .. give me eggs and bacon instead?
A walk around the block may bring the numbers down or maybe a retest to make sure it wasn't a rogue reading?
 
He tested 3 times I'll try and separate him from his porridge lol - he has done so well over the years it would be a shame to go downhill now over a plate of porridge
 
I thought porridge was ok for me, until I tested 2 hours after eating and found it had spiked my bg to 10.4 (usually in the 6s).
I haven't had it since then.
 
Ok thanks people, will tell him it just happens and that's that. He hates change and will be a pain about it but I'll sort it out! lol
 
Your hubby has done really well to stay diet managed for this long. Please remember that aging by itself affects the efficiency of the metabolic processes.
Could he be brewing a summer cold or other infection at all? Worth a thought. Good luck.
 
You could try soaking chia seeds in almond/hazelnut/soya or ordinary milk overnight, it is a bit like porridge. I do that and add some double cream and sweetener.
 
He's very set in his ways, don't think eh would even try any of this new stuff Prem or Rachox. He'd just get ratty
 

What a pain, fumanchu.

How long is "lately"? Is this rise in blood numbers only in the mornings, or over the whole day?

Does he have anything else going on in his life, like an infection, stress, poor sleep? Does the rise correlate with the warmer weather at all? I'm just trying to widen the thinking a bit, maybe.
 
It's been a few months now, used to be always in the 5s then 6s and now the 7s. He is very stressed though, would that do it? And he has got lazy and only tests that one time every day , doesn't test after meals any more. I will make him do it now.
 
Ok Kitedoc, will do. I have been saying to him to do that but he doesnt listen to me. He will listen to this forum !

Unfortunately, stress can do tricky things to blood glucose. It's the body's reaction to all those stress hormones, amking us ready for a fight or flight or whatever.

If the stress isn't likely to disipate at all, then managing it and the impacts seems the way to go.

It'd be useful, and probably frustrating, to do some additional testing, to understand exactly what's going on.

Good luck with it all. Life sometimes throws us curved balls, for sure.
